PREPARING FOR EAR SURGERY

Before having otoplasty in the Phoenix-Metro area, proper preparations should be in order. Here are some things you should consider before going under the knife:

Stop smoking for several weeks before surgery
Lab tests, including a complete blood count (CBC) and liver, kidney, and blood sugar tests, may be asked of you to ensure you are fit for surgery
Be open about your medical history and any medications you are taking
Stop taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements

EAR SURGERY RESULTS AND RECOVERY

Recovering from ear surgery can take between 2 to 6 weeks. The recovery phase is not painful, although you may experience some level of discomfort, including itching and swelling. You will receive aftercare directives and scheduled follow-up appointments with Dr. Ogley, which you should follow to ensure the best possible results.

During recovery, you must sleep on your back to avoid placing stress on your ears and stitches. Your plastic surgeon will also instruct you to wear an otoplasty headband, especially at night, to provide gentle compression and keep your healing ears in place. Depending on your procedure, the surgical sutures may dissolve on their own within a few weeks. In some cases, your doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment to check on your progress and remove the sutures. You will notice the results immediately after surgery.

HOW LONG IS THE PROCEDURE?

It takes approximately two to three hours to complete an otoplasty. The specific amount of time needed to complete your procedure will depend on your surgery’s complexity.

WILL THERE BE SCARS?

The incisions made during ear surgery do result in scars, but they are well-concealed behind the ears. Most visible scarring after surgery will fade in time.

SHOULD I EXPECT ANY PAIN?

Severe pain after ear surgery is uncommon, but you may experience temporary discomfort around the incision sites. Your prescription medication from Dr. Scott Ogley should alleviate any discomfort right away.
