You will awake from surgery with a supportive compression garment around your neck. This will help with swelling and ensure that your skin contracts properly. This compression will be worn for about a week at all times and then a week at night.
You can recover at home after your procedure. Keeping your head elevated for the first 48 hours and applying cold compresses can help reduce swelling, though it’s normal for some swelling and bruising to last up to 2 weeks. Most people can return to work and resume some everyday activities within a few days. Strenuous activities such as exercise, however, should be kept at a minimum for two weeks.
Your surgeon will provide you with instructions detailing when to take your pain medication, how to bathe, and which sleeping position is ideal.
You will be sent to a recovery center after your facelift and necklift for the first day after surgery. This is a safety precaution in the rare event that a complication arises following surgery. And, realistically, having someone reliable to help you makes the first few days of recovery much easier. They can make sure you are taking your medications as prescribed and eating nutritious meals to boost the healing process.
Expect many sensations as your face and/or neck heal, with tightness being the most notable. Bruising, swelling, tenderness, and numbness are also generally present. These temporary side effects will begin to fade within days after your surgery, with full resolution in about 2 to 4 weeks. Patients usually take up to 14 days off from work and cease strenuous activities for 3 to 4 weeks.
